Arizona Name Change-Adult is a process that grants adults the ability to legally change their name in the state of Arizona. The process requires the filing of a petition in court, the publication of the name change in a local newspaper, and the issuance of a court order. There are two types of Arizona Name Change-Adult: Simple Name Change and Complex Name Change. A Simple Name Change is typically used when the petitioner wants to change their first, middle, and/or last name, or combine or separate names. A Complex Name Change requires additional steps beyond the Simple Name Change, such as obtaining a background check, or changing the name of a minor. Both types of name changes are handled by the county Superior Court in the county of residence of the petitioner.
