The affidavit is filed with the probate court, and it is used to appoint a personal representative who will be responsible for managing the estate. The affidavit must be signed by two witnesses and notarized. There are two types of Rhode Island Affidavit — Complete Administration: Small Estate and Regular Administration. Small Estate Affidavits are used when the deceased person's assets are worth less than $15,000. Regular Administration Affidavits are used when the assets are worth more than $15,000.
