Washington Journey Level Wage Rate is the rate used to compute apprentices' wages in the state of Washington. This rate is set by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) and is based on the prevailing wage rate for the occupation and the geographic area in which the apprentice works. There are two types of Washington Journey Level Wage Rate from which apprentices' wages rates are computed. The first type is the Statewide Standard Journey Level Wage Rate, which is the same for all apprentices in the state of Washington. The second type is the Local Prevailing Rate, which is based on the prevailing wage rate for the occupation and the geographic area in which the apprentice works. Both types of wage rate are updated periodically to ensure that the wage rate reflects the current wages paid to similar occupations in the same geographic area.
