Vermont Confidential Notification for Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation is a system used to inform certain people of any type of abuse, neglect, or exploitation that has been reported or suspected. This notification system is used to help protect the health and safety of vulnerable adults and children in Vermont. It is also used to prevent further abuse, neglect, or exploitation. There are two types of Vermont Confidential Notification for Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation: mandatory and voluntary. In the mandatory system, a mandated reporter must make a report to the Vermont Department for Children and Families (DCF) if they suspect or observe any type of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. In the voluntary system, anyone can make a report to DCF if they suspect or observe any type of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Reports made through either system are kept confidential.
