8.118 Attempted Kidnapping-Foreign Official or Official Guest (18 U.S.C. Sec. 1201(d)) is a federal crime involving the attempt to kidnap a foreign official or a person who has been invited by the United States to visit the country as a guest. This offense is considered a felony and carries a potential prison sentence of up to life in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000. Sec. 1201(d)) include, but are not limited to, attempted kidnapping of a foreign official or guest (1) to obtain a ransom or reward, (2) to influence the policies of the United States, (3) to interfere with the performance of any governmental or political function, or (4) in order to injure or terrorize any individual or group of individuals.
