18 U.S.C. Sec. 2113(D) ARMED BANK ROBBERY is a federal offense in the United States code which criminalizes the use of force, violence or intimidation to take money from a bank. This offense is punishable by up to 25 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. There are three distinct types of 18 U.S.C. Sec. 2113(D) ARMED BANK ROBBERY: armed assault, robbery, and attempted robbery. Armed assault is the use of a dangerous weapon to threaten or intimidate a bank employee or customer in order to take money from the bank. Robbery is the taking of money from a bank by force, violence, or intimidation. Attempted robbery is the attempt to take money from a bank by force, violence, or intimidation but without actually completing the robbery.
