18 U.S.C. Sec. 1466A(B)(1) POSSESSION OF OBSCENE VISUAL REPRESENTATIONS OF SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN is an offense punishable under federal law. This section prohibits any person from knowingly possessing a visual depiction of any kind, including a drawing, cartoon, sculpture, or painting, that depicts a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct. It also forbids knowingly possessing any photograph, film, video, or computer or computer-generated image or picture that contains such visual depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The types of visual depictions prohibited include simulated or actual lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of any minor. Offenders may face a fine, a prison sentence of up to 10 years, or both.
