Texas National Medical Support Notice Note (MSN) is a form sent to employers of noncustodial parents who are ordered to provide health insurance coverage for their children. The form informs the employer of the legal obligation to provide health insurance coverage and informs the employer which employee is responsible for providing the coverage. There are two types of Texas MSN: Original Notice and Enforcement Notice. The Original Notice is sent to the noncustodial parent’s employer to inform them of the obligation to provide health insurance coverage. The Enforcement Notice is sent to the employer when the noncustodial parent has failed to provide health insurance coverage and the state is enforcing the court order. The Enforcement Notice will include the employer’s obligation to provide coverage and will also include an administrative wage garnishment.

The National Medical Support Notice (NMSN) is a federally required tool used to enforce medical support orders for minor children. It is to be used throughout the United States to enroll children in employment related health insurance coverage.

Under Maryland law, child support continues until the minor child reaches the age of 18. It may be extended to age 19 if the child is still enrolled in high school. If there is past-due child support, the agency will continue to enforce payment until the arrears are paid in full, regardless of the age of the child.

An obligation to pay cash medical support is in addition to child support. An obligor who must pay $500 per month in child support, $150 in medical support, and $25 per month in dental support has a total monthly obligation of $675.

In Texas, a court may order that medical child support payments be made to cover the children's medical expenses or that the other parent provide health insurance coverage. The duration of medical support payments is the generally the same as periodic payments of child support.
