Mayhem is a felony at common law which requires an intent to maim or do bodily harm accompanied by an act that either dismembered the victim or disabled the use of some part of the body that is useful for fighting. Abolished in some states, in other states this is extended to include permanent disfigurement.

Under Oklahoma law the only one considered an accessory is one that acts after the fact. This can be seen in the first line of the statute defining an accessory, "All persons who, AFTER THE COMMISSION OF ANY FELONY, conceal or aid the offender..."

Any person guilty of maiming another, as defined in Section 751 of this title, shall be guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment in the custody of the Department of Corrections not exceeding life or by a fine not exceeding One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), or both such fine and imprisonment.

Maim means to inflict serious bodily injury on someone resulting in permanent damage. Originally, in English common law it meant to cut off or permanently disable a part of the body such as an arm, leg, hand, or foot.

Oklahoma law requires that a person serviving a prison sentence for particular crimes "shall be required to serve not less than eighty-five percent (85%) of any sentence of imprisonment imposed by the judicial system prior to becoming eligible for consideration for parole.

In Oklahoma, maiming is a felony with potential penalties of up to a $1,000 fine, up to life imprisonment, or both.
