A New York Notice of Appeal is a document filed in a New York State court, typically in the Appellate Division, to initiate an appeal from a lower court's decision. This document informs the court that the party filing the appeal wishes to challenge a lower court's decision and provides the court with the relevant information needed to begin the appeal process. There are two types of New York Notices of Appeal, a Notice of Appeal from a Judgment or Order and a Notice of Appeal from a Decision. A Notice of Appeal from a Judgment or Order is used when the party filing the appeal is challenging a final Judgment or Order of the court, while a Notice of Appeal from a Decision is used when the party filing the appeal is challenging a non-final Decision of the court.
