Massachusetts Uniform Counsel Certification (MUCH) is a program that allows attorneys in the state of Massachusetts to demonstrate their expertise in a particular area of law. It is administered by the Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA) and certifies attorneys who have met certain educational and experience requirements in a specific area of law. The certification is voluntary and is not a requirement for practicing law in Massachusetts. There are currently four categories of certification: Civil Litigation, Criminal Practice, Family Law, and Business Law. Each category requires the completion of a specific number of hours of continuing legal education as well as a minimum of five years of experience in the area of law. Attorneys who successfully complete the certification process are recognized by the MBA as experts in their respective fields.
