Illinois Claim is a program that provides unemployment benefits to individuals who have lost their job through no fault of their own. The program is administered by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) and funds are provided by the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (PUC) program. There are two types of Illinois Claim: Regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA). UI is available to those who are unemployed due to no fault of their own and have earned wages in a covered employment in the last 18 months. PUA is available to those who are not eligible for UI, such as independent contractors, gig workers, and self-employed individuals.
