Arizona Acceptance of Service is a formal process by which a defendant in a legal proceeding agrees to accept service of a summons, complaint, or other document. This process is authorized by Arizona Rule of Civil Procedure 4.1. In most cases, a defendant must sign an Acceptance of Service form to signify that they have accepted service of the document. There are three types of Acceptance of Service in Arizona: Personal Acceptance, Acceptance by Mail, and Acceptance by Agent. Personal Acceptance requires that a defendant personally appear before an authorized individual to sign the Acceptance of Service form. Acceptance by Mail involves the defendant sending the form back to the court by mail. Acceptance by Agent allows a defendant to designate an agent to accept service on their behalf. All types of Acceptance of Service must be in accordance with Arizona law.
