Wisconsin Physicians Certification is a state-approved program that grants physicians in Wisconsin the credential of Board Certified Physician. The program is administered by the Wisconsin Board of Medical Examiners (BME) and is designed to recognize the skills and knowledge of Wisconsin physicians in their specialty areas. There are three types of Wisconsin Physicians Certification: Initial Certification, Recertification, and Maintenance of Certification (MOC). Initial Certification requires physicians to pass a comprehensive exam that tests their knowledge in their chosen specialty. Recertification is required every ten years, and MOC is required annually to maintain certification. All three types of Wisconsin Physicians Certification require the completion of continuing medical education (CME) credits to stay up-to-date on the latest advances in medicine.
