Washington GAL — Order Appointing GAL on behalf of a Minor is a legal document issued by a Washington State court which appoints a Guardian ad Item (GAL) to represent the interests of a minor child. The GAL is an independent and impartial advocate who is appointed by the court to investigate and provide a report to the court on what is in the best interests of the child. There are two types of Washington GAL — Order Appointing GAL on behalf of a Minor: Temporary GAL and Permanent GAL. The Temporary GAL is appointed to address immediate issues such as protecting the child's safety and welfare, while the Permanent GAL is appointed to provide a more long-term representation of the minor's interests.
