Possession can be of tangible property such as land, real estate, and motor vehicles, or intangible property such as intellectual property, copyrights, or patents. Possession can be classified into two types: actual possession and constructive possession. Actual possession is when a person has direct physical control or ownership of a thing, where the person knows that they are in control and that the thing is theirs. Constructive possession is when a person does not necessarily have direct physical control or ownership of a thing, but they have the right to obtain the thing and exercise control over it. Constructive possession may involve a person having the right to use, possess, or dispose of a thing, even if they do not have direct physical control over it.
