18 U.S.C. Sec. 1030(E)(4) defines a “financial institution” as any institution that is listed in paragraphs (5), (6), (7), or (8) of subsection (E). Specifically, the definition includes: (5) a broker or dealer registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission; (6) an investment company registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission; (7) an insured depository institution; and (8) an insured credit union. Therefore, 18 U.S.C. Sec. 1030(E)(4) provides a definition of “financial institution” that includes four distinct types of entities: a broker or dealer registered with the SEC, an investment company registered with the SEC, an insured depository institution, and an insured credit union.
