The New York CJA Form 20 Appointment of and Authority to Pay Court-Appointed Counsel is used by judges to appoint lawyers to represent indigent defendants in criminal cases. This form allows judges to appoint attorneys and to authorize the payment of fees and/or expenses to those attorneys. There are two versions of the New York CJA Form 20 Appointment of and Authority to Pay Court-Appointed Counsel: one for attorneys with private practices, and one for attorneys employed by the Office of Assigned Counsel. The form also includes provisions for the appointment of investigators or experts if necessary.
