New York Salvage Vehicle Waiver is a document that must be obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) when registering a vehicle that has been declared a total loss due to flood, fire, or collision damage. It certifies that the vehicle has been inspected and deemed roadworthy by a licensed mechanic. The Salvage Vehicle Waiver also states that the vehicle is insured for liability and meets all other state requirements for registration. There are two types of New York Salvage Vehicle Waiver: "Salvage Vehicle Waiver for Rebuilt Vehicle" and "Salvage Vehicle Waiver for Rebuilt Vehicle". The former is issued for a vehicle that has been repaired and is suitable for operation on public roads. The latter is issued for a vehicle that is not suitable for operation and must be sold for parts only.
