New York Certification of Disposition of Vehicle on Behalf of Absentee Owner is a form issued by the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) that allows an individual to dispose of a vehicle on behalf of an absent owner. This form is typically used when the owner of the vehicle is not able to be present to sign the paperwork necessary to dispose of the vehicle. The form includes the name of the absent owner, the description of the vehicle, and the signature of the disposing party. There are two types of New York Certification of Disposition of Vehicle on Behalf of Absentee Owner forms: an Abandoned Vehicle Certification and a Non-Abandoned Vehicle Certification. The Abandoned Vehicle Certification is used when the vehicle has been abandoned for more than 30 days and the owner cannot be located. The Non-Abandoned Vehicle Certification is used when the vehicle has not been abandoned and the owner can be identified but is not present to sign the necessary paperwork.
