The New York Certification of Residence is a document issued by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance that attests to a person’s residency status in New York. It is used to verify that a person is a resident of New York state for the purpose of filing their taxes and is also used for certain other state services. There are three different types of New York Certification of Residence: the Basic Certification of Residence, which is for individuals filing a single return; the Combined Certification of Residence, which is for individuals filing joint returns; and the Non-Resident Certification of Residence, which is used by those who are non-residents of New York State.
