It requires bus drivers with diabetes to have their blood glucose levels monitored and to submit a medical certificate to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) every two years. If a driver's diabetes is not well-controlled, the DMV may require a more frequent follow-up schedule. The DMV may also require additional blood sugar testing and/or an additional medical report from the driver's healthcare provider. There are two types of New York Article 19-A Bus Driver's Diabetic Follow-Up: a Standard Follow-Up and an Enhanced Follow-Up. A Standard Follow-Up consists of two annual blood sugar tests, a medical examination every two years, and a medical report from the driver's healthcare provider. An Enhanced Follow-Up includes three annual blood sugar tests, a medical examination every two years, and a medical report from the driver's healthcare provider.
