New Jersey Child Support Certification is a program offered by the New Jersey Department of Human Services that provides information about a noncustodial parent’s financial responsibility for the support of a child. It is a legal document that serves as proof that a parent is responsible for providing financial support for their child and is also used to establish eligibility for services such as Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANK), and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). There are two types of New Jersey Child Support Certification: an initial certification, which is completed when a child is born or placed in the home of the noncustodial parent, and a recertification, which is completed when a child’s circumstances change and new information is needed.
