A Massachusetts Notice of Appearance is a document filed by a party to a lawsuit, or their representative, to inform the court and other parties that they intend to participate in the case. There are two types of Massachusetts Notices of Appearance: a General Notice of Appearance and a Limited Notice of Appearance. A General Notice of Appearance is used when a party intends to participate in all aspects of a lawsuit, including both discovery and trial. A Limited Notice of Appearance is used when a party only intends to participate in certain aspects of a lawsuit, such as discovery only. The Notice of Appearance must include the parties’ names, the court's jurisdiction, and the date the Notice of Appearance was filed. The Notice of Appearance must be signed by the party or their representative.
