Louisiana Interpreter/ADA Accommodations are services designed to assist individuals with disabilities to access programs, services, and information that are otherwise available to the public. These accommodations are mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and include services such as sign language interpreting, real-time captioning, and auxiliary aids and services. Sign language interpreting is used to provide visual communication support for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. A certified interpreter is used to interpret spoken language into a sign language, and also to interpret sign language into spoken language. Real-time captioning is used to provide written communication support for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. A certified captioned is used to transcribe what is being said, with the results being displayed in real-time on a monitor or other device. Auxiliary aids and services are used to provide access to information and services to individuals with disabilities. These can include such things as assistive listening devices, assistive technology, Braille, and large print. Other types of Louisiana Interpreter/ADA Accommodations include audio description, communication access real-time translation (CART), and video remote interpreting (VRI). Audio description is used to provide an audible description of events that are happening on the screen for individuals who are blind or have low vision. CART is used to provide written communication support for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. VRI is used to provide communication support for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing over a video link.
