Illinois PTaX-324 Senior Homestead is a program designed to provide tax relief to senior citizens in Illinois. It is available to Illinois residents who are 65 years of age or older and meet the income eligibility requirements. This program allows eligible seniors to defer all or a portion of the state portion of their real estate taxes. There are two types of Illinois PTaX-324 Senior Homestead: the Senior Homestead Exemption and the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption. The Senior Homestead Exemption allows seniors to reduce their taxable assessed value of their property by up to $8,000. The Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption allows eligible seniors to freeze their property assessment at the level of the first year they qualify for the program.
