An Illinois Civil No Contact Order-Petition is a legal document used in the state of Illinois to obtain a court order that prohibits an individual from harassing, intimidating, or coming within a certain distance of another individual. It is usually sought by a victim of domestic violence, stalking, or harassment. There are two types of Illinois Civil No Contact Order-Petition: Emergency Orders of Protection and Plenary Orders of Protection. An Emergency Order of Protection is issued without a court hearing and is in effect until the court holds a hearing to determine whether a Plenary Order of Protection is necessary. A Plenary Order of Protection is issued after a court hearing and is in effect for up to two years. A violation of any Illinois Civil No Contact Order-Petition is considered a crime and can result in arrest.
