Hawaii Stipulation for Temporary Remand (HST) is a legal document used in the state of Hawaii to temporarily detain a person charged with a crime when there is a risk of flight or danger to the community. This document allows the court to impose certain conditions on an individual’s release which can include, but are not limited to, the surrender of their passport, a no-contact order, the requirement to check in with a court officer, or the posting of a cash bond. There are two types of HST: Category 1 and Category 2. Category 1 is used when the defendant is considered to present a risk of flight, while Category 2 is used when the defendant is considered to pose a potential danger to the community. Both types of HST require the defendant to comply with the conditions set by the court until the case is heard in court and a final ruling is determined.
