Florida Summons (General) is a court document issued by the clerk of the court for a civil case in the state of Florida. It is used to notify the defendant(s) of the plaintiff's complaint, and to provide instructions on how to respond to the complaint. The Summons must be served on the defendant(s) in order for the court to have jurisdiction over the case. There are two types of Florida Summons (General): standard Summons and Summons with Notice. The standard Summons is used when the defendant is familiar with the case, while the Summons with Notice is used when the defendant has limited knowledge of the case. Both types of Summons require the defendant to provide a response to the complaint within a certain period of time, or else a default judgment may be entered against them.
