Connecticut Joint Petition — Nonadversarial Divorce (Dissolution of Marriage) is a type of no-fault divorce that couples can use to legally end their marriage in the state of Connecticut. This type of divorce is a non-adversarial, cooperative process that allows the parties to settle the terms of their divorce without having to go through a lengthy court process. To file for this type of divorce, both spouses must sign a Joint Petition for Dissolution of Marriage, which outlines the terms of the divorce, such as division of assets and debts, child support and custody arrangements, and alimony if applicable. The parties must also file additional documents, such as a Separation Agreement, Financial Affidavit, and a Parenting Plan. Once the Joint Petition and all the necessary documents are filed with the court, a hearing will be scheduled with a judge, who will review the documents and issue a decree of dissolution. There are two types of Connecticut Joint Petition — Nonadversarial Divorce (Dissolution of Marriage): Uncontested Divorce and Contested Divorce. An uncontested divorce is when both parties have agreed to all the terms of the divorce and are willing to sign the Joint Petition. A contested divorce is when one of the parties does not agree to the terms outlined in the Joint Petition and is not willing to sign. In this case, the parties may have to go through a court-mediated process to settle the terms of their divorce.
