A California Order Renewing Elder or Dependent Adult Abuse Restraining Order is a court order that is issued to protect an elder or dependent adult from abuse. The order requires the alleged abuser to stay away from the elder or dependent adult, their home, and their place of work. It also prohibits any contact between the alleged abuser and the elder or dependent adult, either directly or indirectly. The restraining order is typically valid for up to three years and can be renewed as needed. There are two types of California Order Renewing Elder or Dependent Adult Abuse Restraining Order: an ex parte order and a permanent order. An ex parte order is an emergency order that is issued without notice to the alleged abuser. It is typically valid for up to 21 days and can be renewed if necessary. A permanent order is issued after a court hearing in which the alleged abuser has an opportunity to be heard and is typically valid for up to three years. In either type of order, the court may also grant additional relief such as temporary child custody and support, the temporary use of a residence, and the payment of financial support. The order may also require the alleged abuser to stay away from the elder or dependent adult's family members and other persons designated by the court.
