California Order Renewing Civil Harassment Restraining Order — CLETS (also known as California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System) is a court order issued by the court to protect a person from acts of civil harassment. It prohibits the restrained person from contacting, harassing, threatening, or stalking the protected person or anyone else in the household. It also orders the restrained person to stay away from the protected person’s home, workplace, and school. The order can be renewed for up to five years. The two types of California Order Renewing Civil Harassment Restraining Order — CLETS are Emergency Restraining Orders and Permanent Restraining Orders. Emergency Restraining Orders are issued by the court in emergency situations and are typically valid for up to 20 days. Permanent Restraining Orders are issued after a hearing and are typically valid for up to five years.
