Oklahoma Larceny Definitions are the laws that define certain types of theft in the state of Oklahoma. Larceny is any act of taking, carrying away, and/or exercising control over someone else’s property with the intent to deprive the owner of it permanently. The main types of larceny in Oklahoma are grand larceny and petite larceny. Grand larceny is defined as the theft of property valued at $1000 or more. Petite's larceny is theft of property valued at less than $1000. Other types of larceny in Oklahoma include embezzlement, which is the fraudulent conversion of another person's money or property; false pretenses, which is obtaining money or property by making false or misleading statements with the intent to deceive; and shoplifting, which is the theft of merchandise from a store. In Oklahoma, larceny is punished with fines and/or imprisonment. The severity of the punishment depends on the value of the property stolen and the offender’s criminal history.
