The boundary side is the short side of the field, while the field side is the wide side of the field.
The field of play is rectangular and marked with lines called boundary lines. The two longer boundary lines are touch lines and the two shorter lines are goal lines.
Field boundaries are the visible edges of different plots of farmed land. These can be physical boundaries formed by a wall, bank, ditch or they may be visible due to a change in ploughing direction or the presence of a plough headland.
The longer lines are the sidelines and the shorter lines are called end lines. NFL rules call for the sidelines and end lines to be 6 feet (1.8 m) wide, though the lines may be narrower on fields used for multiple sports or by college or amateur teams.
