Please Note: We are currently accepting E-file applications for the tax year 2025 only. To be eligible for homestead exemption, you must be a permanent resident of Florida, who owns real property as of January 1 of the year in which you are applying.

Eligible resident veterans with a VA certified service-connected disability of 10 percent or greater shall be entitled to a $5,000 property tax exemption. The veteran must establish this exemption with the county tax official in the county in which he or she resides by providing documentation of this disability.

Homestead assessment difference transfer (“portability”) allows eligible Florida homestead owners to transfer their Save Our Homes (SOH) assessment limitation from their old homestead to a new homestead, lowering the assessed value for the new homestead.

Florida law requires that you re-apply for the Homestead exemption anytime there has been a change of ownership. You MUST re-apply by March 1st. Even if you have always lived there, you must re-apply! If you are moving to a new property you must file for Homestead on the new property by March 1st.

Disabled Veterans' Exemption The Veterans Administration must certify 100% disability. An additional exemption is available for qualified low-income veterans. Unfortunately, there is no provision in the law for a Disabled Veterans' Exemption if you are less than 100% disabled.
