You must return the USCIS-issued document with the incorrect information. Generally, you also need to submit either a statement explaining the error or supporting documentation to show what the correct information should be, or both.
If you hand write your answers, use black ink. Make sure that everything you write on the form is clear, so we can easily read the information on the scanned image we produce when we process your form.
Mark the envelope and the cover letter with the type of submission. For example, Original Submission, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status (Form I-485). Mark the envelope and the cover letter with the form number.
Submitting all required initial evidence and supporting documentation at the same time you file Form I-485 may eliminate the need for us to issue a Request for Evidence (RFE)to obtain additional evidence and documentation. This may also help avoid adjudication delays if we decide that you do not need to be interviewed.
If you have not received your notice, you may submit a case inquiry with USCIS in the “did not receive notice by mail” category. For example, if you did not receive your approval notice and believe it may have been lost in the mail, you may submit a case inquiry as explained above if you know your receipt number.
You can call the USCIS hotline and request they send you a new receipt.
You will need your 13-character receipt number from your application or petition.
You should receive a receipt notice within 30 days after filing at a Service Center or 30 days after filing at a Lockbox.
