Florida operates based on at-will employment. This means that employers can terminate employees at any time without reason or notice. This law also gives employees the right to quit without providing a reason or notice.
Dear Supervisor's Name, I am writing to inform you that I have decided to resign from my position as Job Title at Company Name. My last day of work will be Date. I want to take this opportunity to thank you and the entire team for the valuable experience and support provided during my time at Company Name.
It's perfectly legal to quit without notice in the USA. You would likely be coded as ineligible for rehire in the old employer's HR system. You also are unlikely to get a good reference (but smart employers don't permit references good or bad). Of course, with any voluntary quit, you can't get unemployment insurance.
Florida is an at-will employment state. Unless they have hired you for a specific length of time (contract for one year, for example ), you can quit with a weeks notice, two weeks notice, or no notice at all.
The standard “two weeks' notice” is not required. (Although, unless you are leaving a hostile environment or unsafe working conditions, agreeing to a “notice” work period when quitting is usually better than burning bridges.)
To resign from your position, complete and submit a resignation letter to your supervisor at least two weeks, or as soon as possible, before your last day.
Recipient: Address the HR department or your direct manager/boss. Purpose: Clearly state you're resigning from your position. Departure date: Include your intended last working day. Reason for leaving: If you choose to, briefly mention why you're leaving (e.g., spending time with family, relocating).
