Jurors are summoned for a 90-day term of service. However, you will not be at the Court every day for this period. You may be required to appear only one to three times. If you are selected, you will serve for the duration of the trial and be excused for the remainder of the 90-day period.
A summary jury trial is generally a one-day jury trial with relaxed rules of evidence similar to arbitration except that a jury decides factual issues and renders a verdict as a jury would in a traditional trial. The parties may agree on the mode and method of presentation.
The same rules apply to trial jury and to grand jury service. Who must report? There are no automatic exemptions or excuses from jury service in New York State. Everyone who is eligible must serve.
