Wisconsin Summons is a document issued by a Wisconsin court that requires a person to appear in court. Generally, the summons is issued by a court clerk or an attorney for the plaintiff or defendant. There are two types of Wisconsin Summons: a summons to appear at a hearing or trial, or a summons to answer a complaint. In either case, the summons must include the case number, the name and address of the court, the date and time of the hearing, and the name and address of the parties involved. A summons must be served upon the defendant by a Wisconsin Sheriff or a qualified process server. Upon receipt of the summons, the defendant must respond in writing within the time frame provided in the summons. Failure to respond to the summons can result in a default judgment being entered against the defendant.
