Washington Form 18. Motion is a legal document used to ask a Washington State court for a decision or order. It is typically used to start or respond to a civil lawsuit in the state. There are three main types of Washington Form 18. Motion: a motion for summary judgment, a motion to dismiss, and a motion for judgment on the pleadings. A motion for summary judgment requests a court to decide a case without a trial by presenting facts that show the party making the motion is entitled to judgment as a matter of law. A motion to dismiss requests the court to dismiss a case due to a lack of evidence or a procedural defect. A motion for judgment on the pleadings requests the court to decide a case based on the facts presented on the pleadings alone, without any evidence.
