A Utah Protective Order is a court order issued in the state of Utah that is designed to protect a victim of domestic violence, stalking, or harassment from further abuse. The purpose of the order is to stop the abuser from contacting the victim and limit their ability to come near the victim. There are two types of Utah Protective Orders; temporary orders and permanent orders. Temporary orders are issued without a hearing and are valid for up to 30 days. Permanent orders are issued after a hearing and are valid for up to 18 months. Both types of orders may include orders that prohibit the abuser from contacting the victim, visiting the victim's home or workplace, and possessing a firearm.
