Utah Conviction is the determination of guilt in a criminal case. It can be a felony or a misdemeanor and can either be entered by a judge or jury. There are three types of Utah Convictions: guilty by plea, guilty by trial, and no contest. A guilty by plea conviction occurs when the defendant enters a plea of guilty to the charges. A guilty by trial conviction occurs when the defendant is found guilty after a trial. A no contest conviction occurs when the defendant does not contest the charges and allows the court to find them guilty. All convictions in Utah are reported to the Utah Department of Corrections and are tracked in the state criminal record system.
