Sec. 924(C)(1)(A) specifies that any person who uses or carries a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence or drug trafficking crime shall, in addition to the punishment provided for such crime of violence or drug trafficking crime, be subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years in prison. The term ‘fireardescrieses 18 C. Sec.Sec. 922 & 924 as any weapon which is designed to expel a projectile through the use of an explosive, or any device which is readily convertible to expel a projectile through the use of an explosive. This includes handguns, rifles, shotguns, machine guns, silencers, and destructive devices.

18 U.S.C.
