A Lesser Included Offense (Single) is a criminal offense that is lesser in magnitude or severity than the original charged offense, but is still considered illegal. It is a subset of the original offense and can be used to convict someone of a lesser charge than the one they were initially charged with. There are two types of Lesser Included Offense (Single): Voluntary and Involuntary. Voluntary Lies are those that the prosecutor chooses to charge as the lower offense instead of the more serious charge, while Involuntary Lies are those that are required by law to be charged in lieu of the more serious offense. In either case, the defendant is still found guilty of the lesser offense and receives a lesser sentence than they would have if they were found guilty of the more serious charge.
