It was enacted as part of the RICO Act of 1970 and amended by Congress in 1984. This law makes it illegal for two or more persons to form an enterprise that engages in activities that affect interstate or foreign commerce. It also prohibits the use of racketeering activity to influence or corrupt the conduct of such enterprises. The law makes it a crime to use or conspire to use any enterprise to facilitate racketeering activity. This includes, but is not limited to, money laundering, extortion, bribery, embezzlement, and fraud. It also makes it a crime to conspire to commit any such activities. Violations of this law can result in fines and/or imprisonment.
