FAQ

The 68-A inspection is a Law Enforcement Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspection for titling purposes or to determine if an assigned or re-assigned VIN is necessary for titling. This is not a safety inspection, nor do we provide a weight scale.

Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR): The VIR is provided to the vehicle owner upon completion of the inspection and indicates whether the vehicle passed or failed the inspection. A copy of the VIR can be obtained from any inspection station within 13 months of the last inspection.

Authorized inspectors can be found by contacting an MVCPA grantee organization or by contacting a TxDMV Regional Service Center. For manufactured vehicles, the completed Form VTR-68-A must include the vehicle's year and make identified by the authorized inspector.

Inspections are performed by appointment, only. To schedule an appointment, call the North Texas Auto Theft Task Force at (214) 653-3430. VTR 68-A inspections will be conducted regardless of motorist's residency.

To get your Texas license plates and registration sticker, visit your local county tax-assessor collector office. You will need your insurance card, the Vehicle Inspection Report issued by the inspection station, and proof that you own the vehicle such as the registration or title from your previous state.

Photo ID: You must have a current and valid photo ID. Most inspection stations will accept both Texas and out-of-state IDs. Proof of Insurance: You will be required to show proof of a current auto insurance policy at the time of your inspection.

Call 512-974-5265 to schedule an appointment. A Form VTR-68-A is an inspection conducted by a law enforcement officer to verify the identify of a vehicle for registration purposes.

If you need proof of inspection to complete your vehicle's registration renewal, visit .mytxcar.org to download, display electronically, or print a copy of the document. Your inspection will be verified manually, and you will be permitted to renew your vehicle registration.
