Texas Inspection Verification (TIV) is a program that verifies that vehicles meet the minimum safety standards in the state of Texas. TIV requires that most motor vehicles have a safety inspection conducted at an authorized inspection station and that the vehicle pass the inspection. The vehicle must then be registered with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and have a valid inspection sticker issued. There are two types of Texas Inspection Verification: annual vehicle inspections and heavy-duty vehicle inspections. Annual vehicle inspections cover vehicles up to 10,000 lbs., while heavy-duty vehicle inspections cover vehicles over 10,000 lbs., such as semi-trucks and buses. Both types of inspections cover basic safety components, such as brakes, lights, tires, mufflers, and steering components. After the inspection has been completed, the vehicle must be registered with the Texas DMV and have a valid inspection sticker issued.
