A South Carolina Order of Contempt (Visitation) is a court order that commands a party to comply with a prior court order related to visitation rights. The court order can be issued when a party has failed to follow a court order related to visitation rights or has otherwise disobeyed the court's directions. There are two types of South Carolina Order of Contempt (Visitation): civil and criminal. In a civil contempt order, the court may order the offending party to comply with the visitation order, pay restitution, or serve a jail sentence. In a criminal contempt order, the court may find the offending party guilty of willfully disobeying the court's orders and can impose a jail sentence.
