The South Carolina Order of Appointment (General Session & Family Court) is a document issued by a judge that authorizes a person to act as an attorney or other representative for a legal matter in South Carolina. The Order of Appointment is required when a party does not have an attorney and wishes to represent themselves in court proceedings. Generally, an Order of Appointment is issued to the individual representing the party, not to the party themselves. There are two types of South Carolina Order of Appointment: General Session & Family Court. A General Session Order of Appointment allows a party to represent themselves in criminal and civil matters. A Family Court Order of Appointment allows a party to represent themselves in matters pertaining to family law, such as divorce, child custody, and child support.
