This right is granted under South Carolina law, and the type of firearm, as well as the manner in which it is carried, is regulated. There are two types of South Carolina POSSESSION OF FIREARM IN COURSE OF EMPLOYMENT: (1) Concealed Carry and (2) Open Carry. Concealed Carry occurs when an employee carries a firearm in a concealed manner, usually on his or her person, while on the job. The firearm must be concealed at all times and cannot be visible to the public. Open Carry occurs when an employee carries a firearm in an open and visible manner while on the job. This type of possession of firearm in course of employment is legal in South Carolina, but may not be allowed in certain businesses or public areas. In order to carry a firearm in course of employment in South Carolina, an employee must obtain a valid concealed carry permit. Additionally, employers may require additional background checks and training for employees who wish to exercise their right to carry a firearm in course of employment.
